Aniwatta House

Aniwatta House is a conversation between nature and architecture;

Here, walls are not just boundaries, but canvases for shifting shadows.

Light bends, trees breathe, and spaces unfold in rhythm with the land.

Aniwatta House is a conversation between nature and architecture;

a place where stillness, form, and movement merge into harmony.

Designed by SAHA Architects & Partners, the residence embodies a modernist spirit, characterised by carefully composed views, environmentally responsive design principles, and a disciplined use of materials. Set along an elevated site, the home reveals itself as a sequence of experiences:

an entrance that steps gently with the rhythm of the terrain,

a double-height volume, tempered by sculptural, man-made trees that filter and diffuse the light,

and at the entry, a serene court with a still pond gathers light and breeze into its core, breathing calm and clarity through cross-ventilation.

The design, both inside and out, is anchored in a thoughtfully selected material palette; Indian scorched granite, rendered cement surfaces articulated with translucent voids, windows framed in sleek aluminum, timber handrails, rich wooden floors, and subtly textured white walls. This combination fosters a refined simplicity—timeless in its appeal and rich in tactile experience.

From its softly elevated perch, the living space unfolds toward a garden where seventeen Ayurvedic trees root memory into earth, preserving the land’s natural undulations. Here, nature does not surround the home—it becomes part of its breath. The facades, drawn in precise lines and slender strokes of light, rise like verses in the language of modern architecture—measured, graceful, and enduring.

Here, the garden itself is an architectural invention—a new interpretation of compact modernism interwoven with nature. The design enhances the natural footprint, offering a lifestyle that is modern, sustainable, and effortless in its maintenance.

Aniwatta House transcends the notion of a mere dwelling; it is an architectural reflection—where the built environment doesn’t overwhelm but instead creates harmony. The home serves as a canvas for natural light, gentle motion, and quiet introspection, offering a space that invites presence and pause.
